NEWFYPOOS

Meet our furry family of Newfypoos.

Ida’s parents were a purebred Standard Parti (black and white) Poodle (Sire) and a purebred Landseer (black and white) Newfoundland (Dam).  Ida has a true Landseerer/Parti Poodle coloring ( jet black/white) with black “ticking” throughout her body.  Ozzie’s parents were a purebred brown Standard Poodle (Sire) and a purebred Landseer (black and white) Newfoundland (Dam).  Ozzie is also black and white with the black having more brown hues in it, a white chest and paw markings and has developed  some “Phantom” coloring where there is some gray throughout his face and lower legs.

Our Newfypoos weigh in the 80lb-90lb  range and are low to non-shedding and are dry mouthed. Ida stands approximately 25 inches at the shoulders and Ozzie 27 inches at the shoulders.  They are both extremely affectionate, to each other, and to the whole family.  They will always choose to lay down beside you (often so they are touching you) and when you move rooms they will move rooms with you, they love being where the family is and will always offer up their bellies for a rub.

Ida and Ozzie have both retired, that being said Snoopy has grown into a wonderful dog and is now available to our breeding program (pictures coming).  Snoopy is one of Ida and Ozzies pups, she is a wonderful girl that is super sweet and loves her family.  She will be the Dame to this years litter.

THE BREED

A Newfypoo, is a mix between a Newfoundland and a Poodle. There are many other names that refer to this breed (Newdle, Newfiedoodle, Newfiedoo, Newfoundlandpoo, Newfoundlandoodle, Poofoundland, and Newfoundland-Poodle Mix).

This beautiful breed is perhaps one of the most intelligent Standard Poodle breed mixes.  They retain the agility and intellectual qualities of a poodle combined with the nurturing, "nanny" and rescue qualities of a Newfoundland. There are a variety of coats ranging from straight to curly but generally they have the classic wavy to curly coat.  If the genetics work in your favour the added bonus of a low to non-shedding and potentially hypoallergenic coat may be held by your pup (unfortunately this cannot be guaranteed  in any Poodle mix breed).

They exhibit a calm, loving, loyal, friendly, gentle but alert demeanor. They are very playful and intelligent as well as quick and agile for their size. With this breed you can have a dog that wants to run, play and have fun (half Poodle) and then after a while the Newfoundland breed will come out and it’s time to calm down and have a nice long rest.

These are great indoor and city dogs but we would not recommend them for "outside only dogs" as they are  very social and love being around people.  As well, being Poodle crosses their coat may not be best suited for the outdoor only life.

This is a very social joyful breed, they love being around humans, of all ages, and other animals.  Due to being half Newfoundland they are naturally very gentle and protective with children.  The Newfypoo is a wonderful, alert, friendly, playful, intelligent, loving dog. If you are looking good personality in a larger dog the Newfypoo is a perfect choice for you and your family.

Most people who choose a Newfypoo, want a larger breed that is a somewhat mellow dog that may have a low to no shed coat and does not drool, or drools less than a newfoundlander, both of our Newfypoos are dry mouthed. That being said, when you break out the treats a bit of drool can develop, after all who doesn’t get a watery mouth when delicious food is near?

Why get a Newfypoo when you can get a Newfoundland or a Poodle?  People say to own a Newfie is to fall in love with this gentle giant. So why would anyone get a Newfypoo?  Newfypoos bring the added advantage of typically having better health (because of hybrid vigor), greater intelligence and trainability, because of the standard poodle's high intelligence.  Being both originally water dogs this breed has webbed feet and loves playing in and around water.

If this is what you are looking for then you want a Newfypoo.

Newfypoos can generally get to be somewhere between 70 and 110 pounds. Some can grow larger, but this is the typical weight range.
